It’s a fact, as people, we achieve so much more when there is a plan of action, whether it’s a plan for a productive mornings work or a plan for taking on humanities greatest global challenge. When we can see the big picture, we are empowered to think, create and act.

Discover the 17 SDG’s.
Described as ‘a plan of action for people, the planet and prosperity’ and adopted by all 193 member states back in 2015, the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals are a series of bold, transformative steps, a survival kit, a sat-nav directing us toward a sustainable future for all. They are a plan of action.
Sounds big, that’s because it is. It’s huge, and perhaps the most ambitious global agenda ever devised, yet not a single one of the inextricably linked goals is unrealistic in it’s thinking, and we can all make a contribution – however small – towards their success. For the 2030 Agenda to succeed, it’s about all of us doing our bit.
‘Most people want to do something, but many feel powerless. They see these gigantic problems and feel powerless to do anything about them. But they aren’t. That’s why it’s so important to provide opportunities for action. Every little helps’
Celine Cousteau, Explorer and Environmental Campaigner.
It may seem blindingly obvious, but one of the things we must do is make more and more brands, businesses and organisations aware of the 17 SDG’s, and what they stand for both individually and collectively. It will be interesting to know how many of you reading this post have actually seen them before, after all a plan can only be actioned if everyone is aware of it, and clear on its goals.
Access insights and solutions.
Through our Use.Today initiative we are playing our part in this, by creating a hub – both physical and digital – designed to increase visibility and awareness of the goals. Use.Today will also highlight case studies of those already turning words into actions, and bring together figures from the world’s of business and academia to share the latest research, innovations and solutions.
Earlier this year we attended a seminar on the environmental impact of fast fashion, given by Dr Patsy Perry at the University of Manchester. Speaking on BBC TV and radio, in The Telegraph, The Independent and The Observer, as well as on CNN in the US, Patsy is a well respected figure and highly knowledgeable specialist in her field, and since the event, we are delighted to say that she has become an integral member of our Use.Today network.
As the move towards more sustainable processes and solutions continues to gather momentum, it becomes more and more possible for all of us to make a meaningful contribution to the UN’s SDG’s. More knowledge is shared, more research is undertaken, and more intelligent networks are being built. Common Objective is one such network, and we are extremely pleased to be members of this proactive platform for the fashion industry.

they need to succeed – and makes it easier for them to work in the most sustainable way. Our members have a common objective – to build successful businesses, with a positive impact for people and the environment.’

Involvement in several projects with sustainability at their core amplified the need, and awareness of the number of solutions being developed accelerated our commitment, to support the UN’s 2030 Agenda and provide a resource hub for our members, our network, and the wider business community.
