WeMindTheGap Manchester WeGrow Quiz Night

Social mobility charity WeMindTheGap has been running their WeGrow programme in Manchester for the past three years, providing new opportunities for young people in the area to change their futures. Offering new opportunities in life and work for young people who deserve better, filling the gaps in their lives with unashamed support, love and care.

As part of their programme this year, the Manchester young men and women on the WeGrow programme (who are referred to as ‘Gappies’) held a fundraising quiz to raise money to support their ‘Big Trip’ which is a celebration of their achievements throughout the programme and takes place in October 2021.

Over £500 was raised towards the ‘Big Trip’, however the event was more about the personal development of the Gappies, and the skills and knowledge they have gained in organising such an event. The Gappies displayed great self confidence and team work in pulling the event together.

North West Community Maker, Rachel Orgill, said of the event

‘Gappies hosting an evening for fundraising demonstrates how far they’ve come on their journey. The confidence and self-awareness is transformative. It’s a real push outside your comfort zone. Public speaking and networking isn’t easy, and they all beamed with pride.’

Held here at Use.Space, the quiz was attended by WeMindTheGap employer partners, local supporters, and external life coaches who deliver on the WeGrow programme, as well as the wider community of the North West making it such a great success.

The next event that the Gappies are assisting to organise is their graduation ceremony taking place in November.
