How the coverage works
When you use the Cash Rewards Visa to pay for a rental car, the card offers secondary CDW protection. This means it will cover damage or theft after any primary insurance you have (personal auto policy or other credit‑card coverage) has paid its portion.
Key limitations
- Coverage is limited to rentals in the United States, Canada, and most European countries; some regions are excluded.
- The rental period cannot exceed 30 consecutive days.
- Luxury, exotic, or antique vehicles are typically excluded from coverage.
- Damage to tires, windshields, and undercarriage may not be covered.
How to activate the benefit
Before you rent, call the Bank of America Benefits Center (1‑800‑432‑1000) to confirm the card's eligibility and note any required documentation. Keep the rental agreement and proof of payment, as you'll need them for any claim.
Filing a claim
If an incident occurs, report it to the rental agency immediately, then contact the Benefits Center within 30 days. Provide the rental contract, a copy of the credit‑card statement showing the charge, and any police or damage reports.
