Step‑by‑Step Repair Process

1. Clean the Crack

Remove loose debris and dust with a brush or vacuum. If the crack is wide, use a putty knife to widen it slightly, creating a V‑shaped groove that helps the compound adhere better.

2. Apply Drywall Tape

Press paper tape into the groove, smoothing out air bubbles. For very wide cracks, use a patch piece cut to fit the void and embed the tape over the patch.

3. Layer Drywall Compound

Spreading thin layers is key. Apply the first coat with a drywall knife, feathering the edges. Allow it to dry, then sand lightly to level. Repeat with a second coat, smoothing further.

4. Sand and Prime

Once the final layer is dry, sand until the surface is flush with surrounding wall. Clean the dust, then apply a primer that matches the wall color to seal the patched area and improve paint adhesion.

5. Paint

Apply at least two coats of paint, letting each coat dry fully. The finished patch should blend seamlessly with the rest of the wall.
